Facial skin is thinner, oilier and more reactive than the rest of the body, so most body lotions are the wrong tool for it. A face tanning lotion for tanning beds (UK: sunbed face cream) is lighter, usually bronzer-light or bronzer-free, and never a tingle.

What makes a lotion face-safe
No tingle agents, first and always. Then a lighter base that will not clog pores, often a gel or a serum rather than a cream. Bronzer is optional: a low level of DHA gives even color, but a heavy hybrid bronzer on the face is where orange patches and stained hairlines come from. Many tanners use a face-specific product on the face and neck and their usual lotion everywhere else.
